Seven pilgrims were killed and 10 injured when the Tempo three-wheeler they were travelling in collided head-on with a car on the Agra-Jaipur highway, police said Saturday.

The accident took place late Friday when the pilgrims were on their way to Goverdhan in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district. The Tempo collided with a Scorpio coming from Agra on the highway under Malpua thana area, 20 km from the Taj city.

“Five pilgrims died on the spot while two others died in the SN Medical College emergency. The condition of four injured is critical,” a police officer told IANS.

Mr. Bhimsain, 70, was going to Goverdhan, the holy hill town, for ‘parikrama’ with his family members in a Tempo when a Scorpio hit the vehicle. The victims belong to the Purani Galla Mandi of Kiraoli in Achnera.

The Scorpio was carrying four people. “Two are in police custody while two others managed to escape,” the police officer said.
