Four colleges in Koraput district followed by two in Nabarangpur and one in Gajapati were affected by the cyclone, officials said.

“We have received damage reports from principals of the concerned colleges over telephone in the aftermath of the cyclone,” Regional Director of Education (Berhampur), P K Tripathy, said.

However, functioning of classes in any of the colleges was not affected, he said.

“We have already intimated the government about the damage caused to the colleges for necessary action,” he said.

The damaged colleges are Mahendra Tanaya Junior College at R Udayagiri (Gajapati), Kotpad College, V Dev Junior College at Jeypore, Government Women’s College at Jeypore and Gangeswari Mahavidyalaya at Pottangi (all four in Koraput), Nabarangapur College and Bhairab Junior College at Dabugaon (both in Nabarangapur).

An estimated Rs 40 lakh would be required to repair the damages, the sources said.
