Activists of the Separate State Demand Committee (SSDC) on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the President through the district magistrate demanding creation of a separate state Greater Cooch Behar or Kamtapur.

The SSDC, formed recently at a meeting held at Bongaigaon in Assam, has demanded formation of the proposed state with eleven districts of Assam and six north Bengal districts of West Bengal.

President of Greater Cooch Behar Democratic Party (GCDP), Ashutosh Barma and General Secretary Phanindra Nath Barman said from now united movements would be taken up to secure a separate state Greater Cooch Behar or Kamtapur.

The GCDP leaders also called a 12-hour ‘rail roko’ on 8 November to demand a Kamtapur state.
