The Shiv Sena has reservations over certain clauses of the Land Acquisition Bill, which, it feels, are not in the interest of farmers. But the party is confident that the NDA government at the Centre will satisfactorily address these apprehensions.
Maharashtra Minister of State for Finance Dipak Kesarkar said here on Tuesday that “though we are in power at the Centre with the BJP we will not compromise on the issue of farmers and will press for doing away with certain sections in the proposed legislation which are anti-farmer.”
Talking to presspersons on the sidelines of a function to inaugurate the Central Goa office of the Sena here, Mr. Kesarkar said the Sena had not voted against any of the Bills of the government and he was confident that the objectionable clauses would be removed. As such joining the Opposition to vote against the Bill did not arise.
Asked if the Sena, which was trying to expand its base in Goa would also pursue policies like beef ban and cattle slaughter in this State, Mr. Kesarkar said one should take into consideration different cultures and predominant food habits in different States.
Asked if the Sena was happy with the power sharing in Maharashtra, he said the arrangement was done taking into consideration the proportionate number of legislators.
“Our leader Uddhav Thackeray is fully competent to resolve through discussions with the BJP any issues where there are differences between alliance partners,” he said to a question about the recent differences over the issue of screening Marathi films during prime time in multiplexes.
