‘Sena statement on Muslim voting rights distorted’

April 21, 2015 01:10 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:33 pm IST - PANAJI:

Newly appointed Goa Shiv Sena chief Ajit Singh Rane on Monday accused Opposition parties of distorting a statement in the party organ Saamna to give an impression that the party favoured disenfranchisement of Muslims.

Addressing his maiden press conference after taking over, Mr Rane said the Saamna in its editorial had recalled an old statement of the late Bal Thackeray suggesting the disenfranchisement in the context of vote-bank politics. However, the Opposition had lifted the statement out of context and tried to make an issue out of it to malign the Sena, he said.
