It was like being reborn for Santosh Hantal of Pradhaniput in Kundra block and Dhanpati Bhumia of Paliguda in Jeypore block of Koraput district when they got back some vision in their eyes, even if it was very little. As a part of the process of inclusive education , both of them were going to the village school and sitting together with other children who could very much see the outer world . However without visibility it was a great challenge to gain anything from the classes, Santosh said .
Now that they were taken care of by SOVA , an organisation working with visually challenged children in the district, who were facilitating their learning by supplying brail books and other materials of use in addition to extending physical support through its network of coordinators , visually challenged children like them in seven blocks of the district were dreaming of a better future .
Moreover their eyes were operated as a part of giving vision to a team of seventeen children by VIMAN hospital at Kolkotta recently . After undergoing Intro Olicular Lens (IOL) , they were able to do their own work without much support of the others, Dhanpati added.
Santosh and Dhanpati had joined 21 other visually impaired children in the third skill development training programme being organised by Sova with the support of Sightsavers at Chapar in Koraput block over the last one week which had come to an end on Monday. The facilitators were helping them to learn reading and writing Braille, mathematical activities using Tailor Frame and Abacus.
