More than ten thousand security personnel including paramilitary forces would be deployed in Tripura during Durga puja festival.

“Border Security Force (BSF) has also been asked to maintain close watch on state’s 856-km border with Bangladesh as precautionary measure to keep the festival time free from any untoward incident,” Director General of Police, Pranay Sahaya said on Wednesday.

“All precautionary measures have been taken for smooth puja as the serial blasts took place in Agartala last year before the puja,” DGP told reporters.

Mr. Sahaya said police pickets have been set up, foot and vehicular patrolling were intensified.

Additional forces were kept ready in the police stations, bomb disposal squads were moving in the towns and intelligence network was strengthened, he said.

DGP said, the number of registered pujas which was 1925 last year has risen to 1953 this year.

Mr. Sahaya said, metal detectors were set up in many puja premises and volunteers of puja committees were being trained by the police.

DGP said there was no threat from the insurgents during Durga puja in the hilly and interior places but patrolling of paramilitary forces were intensified and Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) were formed to face challenges.
