The Punjab police and the Army launched a search operation in Pathankot after an abandoned bag containing military uniform was found near the Army base in the town.
Pathankot, a border district, was put on high alert after a resident informed the police about the suspicious bag on Sunday evening. According to the police, five shirts and two trousers, resembling Army uniform, were found in a gunny bag near Defence Road. The search operation was started immediately. The police are investigating the seizure of the bag.
The police said search operations were under way in the area and they were keeping a tight vigil on movement of vehicles and trains from Jammu and Kashmir.
Pathankot had seen a major terror attack in January 2016, when heavily armed terrorists who had sneaked in from across the border attacked the Pathankot air base . In 2015, a police station at Dinanagar was targeted by terrorists.

A local resident informed the police about the bag on Sunday, following which the search operation was conducted in Pathankot city and the Mamoon Cantonment.
“We conducted a search operation along with Army officials to look for any suspicious person,” the official said.
“Five shirts and two trousers were found in a wheat flour bag at a secluded place near the Defence Road,” the official said.
