The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is going to crack down on 'clubs' that have defaulted in the payment of property tax.

SDMC Mayor Shyam Sharma said on Sunday that the defaulter clubs will have to face action as large scale evasion of property tax by various clubs has been unearthed by the Assessment & Collection Department of South Delhi Municipal Corporation. “Investigations have revealed that most of these clubs are not paying correct due amount of property tax.

The main areas where tax payment has been suppressed is the commercial use of various portions of the club and non-inclusion of vacant land of the clubs in the annual value of the property,” Mr. Sharma said.

The mayor also clarified that the vacant land is liable for property tax under the Unit Area Method. Most of the clubs situated in South Zone have already been investigated, he said.
