Woman director of company and senior official also arrested

Sudipto Sen, chairman-cum-managing director of the Kolkata-based Saradha group, was arrested along with two others, from a hotel at the famous tourist resort of Sonmarg on Tuesday morning. A team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police effected the arrest.

Inspector General of Police Abdul Gani Mir told The Hindu that Mr. Sen admitted that they were wanted by the West Bengal police in a chit fund scam. The others arrested were Debjani Mukherjee and Arvind Chouhan.

The IGP said they were shifted to Ganderbal and would be handed over to the West Bengal police after completion of certain formalities, including the transit remand at a local court, on Wednesday.

Informed sources said a senior official of the West Bengal police alerted Mr. Mir over phone late on Monday night that the three were reportedly hiding somewhere in Sonmarg. Mr. Mir contacted Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal, who in turn alerted the Station House Officer of Kangan. Police swung into action and through the small hours checked the entry records of over 20 hotels. Finally, the trio was traced to Hotel Snow Land.
