SP to curb anti-party activities in 26 districts

October 27, 2014 12:44 am | Updated May 23, 2016 03:52 pm IST - LUCKNOW:

A day after 82 functionaries accorded the status of Ministers of State were sacked by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party has begun an exercise to identify rebels involved in anti-party activities and groupism in 26 districts of the State.

These districts are in Purvanchal (eastern U.P.) and central region of Uttar Pradesh. The rebel identification exercise along with measures to strengthen the party organisation commenced on Sunday and would conclude on October 30.

The exercise will be overseen by observers nominated by party national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav.

Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said the observers’ reports would be submitted to the party president Mulayam Singh on November 1. Sources claimed that among the 82 functionaries sacked on Saturday were 25 MoS who were made observers in the districts.

The 82 MoS were removed in the wake of complaints about alleged indiscipline and alleged involvement in anti-party activities and groupism.

The demand for the dismissal of chairmen, advisors and members enjoying the status of Cabinet Ministers or Ministers of State had figured prominently in the recent national convention of the party. Sources said a list of about 88 functionaries with the status of MoS was prepared by the national general secretary of the party, Ram Gopal Yadav against whom action had been contemplated.

Of these, 82 were stripped of their posts by the Chief Minister on Saturday.

When the Samajwadi Party came to power in 2012 over a 100 party workers and local leaders, mostly hangers on and favourites, were made chairmen, advisors, members and presidents of State commissions, organisations, boards and academies. They were accorded the status of MoS.
