SAI coach held on sexual assault charges

The city police on Thursday arrested Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach Susant Roy (45) and forwarded him to court on charges of sexually assaulting a female trainee athlete of the local SAI hostel here.

The minor girl on Wednesday had lodged a written complaint in the Mahila police station alleging that the coach had been mentally and sexually assaulting her for past several days. Basing

on it, police had registered a case under several sections of IPC and Posco Act.

“During preliminary enquiries it was revealed that there are prima facie evidences against the accused coach and accordingly, he was arrested and forwarded to court, said Mahila police station inspector Sakuntala Pati.

Refusing to divulge the details of police investigation as it is a very sensitive matter, the woman police inspector said the investigation is still continuing and did not rule out of more arrests in this connection.
