Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case, will be moving a temporary bail application in the special court here, as her family has decided not to perform funeral rights on her father’s dead body, in her absence.
Sadhvi Pargya’s father Dr. Chandrapal Singh, 72, breathed his last on Saturday in a hospital at Etawah, Uttar Pradesh.
An Ayurvedic practitioner, Singh is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son. His body has been brought to Lahar village in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. However, his family has made it clear that they will not perform the funeral rites on his body in the absence of Ms. Thakur.
Sadhvi Pargya’s lawyer Advocate Ganesh Sovani would be moving the temporary bail application before the special court on Monday, to seek her release for a temporary period of thirteen days as per the provisions in the jail manual.
“She is willing to give an undertaking of her attendance every morning and evening at the nearest local police station,” said Mr. Sovani.
Currently, Sadhvi Pargya is in the judicial custody of Mumbai’s Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in the wake of 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case. However, she is currently lodged at the district jail in Bhopal, as she is under the judicial custody of Special NIA Court at Bhopal, where she is also an accused in Sunil Joshi murder case. He was killed in December, 2007.
