While cautioning against reassertion of the Hindutva agenda by the BJP through its manifesto, the radical Sikh organisation, Dal Khalsa, on Wednesday criticised the Shiromani Akali Dal for shelving the Sikh agenda fearing loss of Hindu votes and turning a blind eye to the “designs” of its alliance partner.
If the BJP could stick to its Hindutva agenda, why were the Akalis so scared of raising core Sikh issues, Dal Khalsa political secretary Kanwar Pal Singh asked in a statement.
“The Hindutva influence has corrupted the rank and file of the once-upon-a-time political party of the Sikhs and has allowed Capt Amarinder Singh to hijack elements of the Panthic agenda to the advantage of the anti-Sikh Congress,” he said. The Dal Khalsa said the real agenda of the BJP, as dictated by the ideology of the Sangh Brotherhood, was to eliminate all diversity from the subcontinent and bring everything under the umbrella of Hinduism.
The proposal for implementation of a uniform civil code, as mentioned in the BJP manifesto, was in total contrast to the Sikhs' demand for a separate personal law.
