A Russian tourist who was molested on a north-Goa beach last week, has reported to the Russian consular officials here that she was molested again by a male doctor at the Goa Medical College (GMC) hospital, where she was sent for medical examination after the complaint of molestation.
Advocate Vikram Varma, legal advisor to honorary Russian Consulate in Goa, said that there were procedural delays in the filing of the FIR by the police as well as the hospital authorities for the medical examination.
Mr. Varma, in his report to Consulate said that according to the victim, the tourist was on a seven-day holiday and was robbed and molested on Baga beach in the wee hours of Saturday. After being sent for medical examination, the doctor in-charge molested her by pressing her breast.
The said medical examination was conducted in the presence of two female colleague doctors, one lady constable and a bilingual Russian-English interpreter.
“The victim has informed the Russian consulate of the matter. What also disturbed her is the way her breasts were examined by a male doctor at GMC,” says Mr. Varma's report.
The victim has also alleged in her report to the consulate, that the molestation and robbery FIR was registered after 24 hours.
The Goa police have denied delay in registering FIR. A senior police official told The Hindu on the condition of anonymity on Thursday, that the police had a tough time to convince the victim to file a formal complaint in the first place as she was reluctant.
GMC officials were not available for response. Goa Minister for Health Laxmikant Parsekar, when contacted for his response, at his residence on Thursday, told that he was not aware of the issue. He later confirmed that no police complaint has been registered with the police about the charge of molestation at GMC.
In recent years, Russians account for the largest foreign tourist arrivals in Goa.
