Causing an embarrassment to the BJP government in Rajasthan, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-affiliated Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) on Thursday launched an indefinite ‘Mahapadaav’ (sit-in) of farmers in Jaipur and at all divisional headquarters of Rajasthan. The BKS has extended its support to the ongoing farmers’ agitation.

The State government sounded a high alert in all districts in view of the agitation. Hundreds of farmers participated in the sit-in at the Veer Tejaji Road grounds here demanding an increase in the minimum support price based on input costs and formulation of “farmer-friendly” policies.

The BKS has stopped short of demanding loan waiver for farmers, which is a major issue of confrontation between the farmers’ groups and governments in several States. BKS general secretary Kailash Gandolia said the farmers were expecting the Rajasthan government to procure the crops such as groundnut, mustard and moong at MSP after two years of drought.
