The coordination committee of Shiv Sena, Bharatiya Janata Party and Republican Party of India in Maharashtra has decided to nominate RPI president Ramdas Athawale on Rajya Sabha from the BJP’s quota.

The decision was taken in a committee’s meeting in Mumbai on Saturday.

A resolution for the same, approved by the Maharashtra unit of BJP will be sent to its central committee which will take the final decision, said a senior BJP leader.

Seven MPs from Maharashtra have ended their Rajya Sabha terms, in which one seat belongs to BJP. Party spokesperson Prakash Jawadekar currently holds that seat.

Mr. Athawale was assured of a Rajya Sabha seat ever since he joined the Sena- BJP alliance, two years ago. According to sources, the BJP has agreed to send him to Rajya Sabha through its quota. However, final decision will be taken by party’s central committee on Monday.
