The Rashtriya Janata Dal on Thursday decided to extend outside support to the newly formed Jitan Ram Manjhi government, which will seek a vote of confidence in the Bihar Assembly on Friday.

The party said its core committee had authorised supremo Lalu Prasad to hold talks with secular parties to put together a united force to counter the “communal forces.”

Mr. Prasad said: “We will not allow the government to fall at any cost.” With the support of the 21 MLAs of the RJD to the government, the Opposition BJP, which has 88 members, will not be able to destabilise it.
