The Rashtriya Janata Dal staged a dharna here, protesting against the recent hooch tragedies in Bihar which claimed the lives of more than 30 people.

The party called for total prohibition in the State.

“In the name of earning Rs. 2000 crore as revenue, generations of dalits, mahadalits and weaker sections are getting destroyed. Bihar doesn’t need liquor shops, but libraries. Since the government makes thousands of crores through liquor sales, shouldn’t it give enough compensation to the victims?” State RJD president Ramchandra Purve said.

Blames CM

He said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should be held responsible for the liquor deaths.

“Liquor sold openly in villages has destroyed social harmony.

“Women and children are most affected due to the ill-effects of liquor consumption.”
