An official of the Goa State Human Rights Commission visited the Aguada Central Jail in north Goa on Friday to record the statements of three Nigerians in custody after the death of their compatriot in Parra sparked clashes.
Anane Innocent, Olcoro Ndidi and Sunday Onye Lucky started a fast on Thursday, demanding that the Commission hear their grievances at the jail. The same day, the jail authorities faxed their request to the Commission and followed it up by deputing an official to the Commission in the evening.
Commission Member A.D. Salkar told The Hindu on Friday that the three-member Commission met under the chairmanship of Justice (retd.) P.K. Mishra and decided to depute secretary Bhalachandra Mahale to the jail. The three-line request did not mention anything about their grievances.
Mr. Mahale, who was accompanied to the jail by a police inspector of the Commission’s investigation wing, would submit his report to the Commission on Tuesday, Mr. Salkar said.
