Martyrs Sahid Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were remembered on Martyr's Day that was celebrated in the city on Tuesday.
The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students' Federation of India (SFI) organised a blood donation camp at the Sahid Laxman Nayak Community Hall to pay tributes to the martyrs.
The blood donation camp was inaugurated by CPI (M) leader and former MP Shivaji Patnaik.
A meeting was also held to remember the ideals for which Sahid Bhagat Singh would always remain immortal. Addressing the gathering,
Mr. Patnaik said, “Bhagat Singh was a pure patriot with a strong belief in secular principles, who dreamt of a society free from poverty and hunger. But, more than 70 per cent of our countrymen still earn a pittance, which is not sufficient to run their families.”
During the meeting a book on life of Bhagat Singh, ‘Raktaranjit Nayaka', written by Bidhuprabha Rath, was also released.
Statue installed
Members of the Sahid Bhagat Singh Club installed a statue of the martyr at Haridakhandi square of the city. The statue was unveiled by State Revenue Minister Suryanarayan Patra.
