Retired police official arrested in Builder's murder in Navi Mumbai

The investigations in the murder of a builder from Navi Mumbai in broad sunlight on Saturday, is exposing the nexus between police, builder and underworld.

The Navi Mumbai police on Sunday arrested a retired police inspector, Samuel Amolik, in connection with the murder, who was allegedly in contact with the assailants while executing the murder of the builder.

Sunil Kumar Loharia, 50, was murdered on Saturday morning outside his office by two assailants. One of the assailants hit Loharia’s head with the coconut at first and then stabbed him repeatedly, before shooting five rounds of bullets in his chest. Both the assailants fled from the spot. However, one of them was caught by the locals and the staff from the builder’s office. The arrested person was identified as Venkatesh Shettiyar, 35, who is said to be a real estate agent from Navi Mumbai.

Amolik’s arrest is the second arrest in the case. “We have arrested him in connection with the case,” AK Sharma, commissioner, Navi Mumbai police told the reporters.

Samuel while working with the crime branch of Navi Mumbai police was known as encounter specialist. He in the past was suspended for his alleged links with the underworld. “He retired from the police force three years ago. He had also worked as a body guard for one of the other builders in Navi Mumbai. As per the information acquired by us, he was in constant touch with the assailants on phone. Both the accused will be sent to police custody till February 22,” said a senior police officer from Navi Mumbai police.
