The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and People's Democratic Party (PDP) founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Thursday called for the resumption of a substantive dialogue with Pakistan to find an amicable solution to the Kashmir dispute.
“Cosmetic dialogue between India and Pakistan will not work,” he said.
If the NDA government led by A.B. Vajpayee could hold a dialogue with a military ruler like Pervez Musharraf, why can't the Centre hold talks with a democratically elected government in Pakistan? “There should not be any problem,” he said.
“In order to force the government to resume the dialogue process we have decided to hold protests at every district headquarters on April 26…
“We will also launch a campaign to create an atmosphere which will force the government to resume talks with Pakistan.”
Reiterating his party's demand for the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), he said these protests would also highlight that demand.
