Repolling in six booths of Niali Assembly segment of Cuttack district ended peacefully on Friday without any untoward incident reported. Sources in the district election office (DEO) here informed that an average 77.66 per cent polling was reported in all these booths.
Reports reaching here also indicated that repolling in three other booths held in Keonjhar (2) and Kendrapara (1) districts in the State on the day went off peacefully too. The booth in Dantia village under Ghasipura Assembly segment of Keonjhar district recorded the maximum 88 per cent polling on the day.
Polling in these booths was held on April 17.
But following allegations of rigging and other irregularities like damage to EVMs, the Election Commission had ordered repolling in all these nine booths. Congress and BJP nominees had alleged that the ruling BJD workers had vandalised the booths damaging the EVMs after an attempt to rig the booths was confronted with. Cuttack collector and DEO Girish S.N said that voters in Niali were highly excited and were very enthusiastic in exercising their franchise. “Since adequate security arrangement was in place, voters, particularly the women came in large number to cast their votes”, said the Cuttack rural S P Gurudas Kundu.
