The Kailash Mansarovar yatra witnessed a record turnout this year with 910 people undertaking the pilgrimage, according to the records of the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) — the Uttarakhand agency that organises the yatra.
It is the highest number of pilgrims since the inception of the yatra in 1981.
Deepak Rawat, managing director, KMVN, said 18 groups participated in the yatra this year.

Satellite phonesMr. Rawat said satellite phones have been made available at camping stations. The police, KMVN officials and the State Disaster Response Force personnel have been posted for the safety of the pilgrims.
The yatra, which is conducted by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Chinese government, passes through Uttarakhand, and goes on up to Mount Kailash, and Lake Manasarovar in Tibet.
A total of 338 groups comprising 13,534 people have participated in the yatra from 1981 till this year.
