The National Institute of Communicable Diseases is in the process of establishing real time polymerase chain reaction test for swine flu at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Home Minister E. Valsaraj, who also holds the Health portfolio, informed the Assembly on Wednesday.

He was responding to a statement made by PMC member K. Lakshminarayan during zero hour. Mr. Lakshminarayan wanted to know about steps taken by the administration to tackle swine flu.

Mr. Valsaraj said the facility would be made available for public in the next two to three days.

CBI cases

Replying to a question from N. Kalainathan (CPI), Mr. Valsaraj said that in the last five years, the Central Bureau of Investigation received 393 petitions against government officials in the Union Territory. After scrutiny, the agency registered 13 cases, of which five had been charge sheeted. In seven cases, the charge sheet was yet to be filed and in the remaining one case, the CBI had recommended for departmental action, Mr. Valsaraj said.
