January 11, 2013 12:38 pm | Updated 12:38 pm IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The 17-year-old rape victim was discharged from Rajiv Gandhi Women and Child Hospital on Wednesday night. She was escorted by her parents to an undisclosed location.

According to hospital sources, the girl was ready to be discharged on Saturday. However, her parents and political parties had requested to keep her in the hospital for a little longer. She was declared fit and ready to be discharged late on Wednesday evening.

On Thursday, protests continued in Puducherry over the welfare of the victim, with several political parties including PMK and DMDK participating. Earlier this week, the girl’s statement was recorded in camera by Judicial Magistrate II S. Uthamaraj.

The girl was admitted to the hospital on January 1. Two persons – bus conductor B. Muthukumaran and private engineering college student Venkatachalapathy – were arrested and the case is being investigated by the Crime Investigation Department.
