A rape accused succumbed to his burns on Friday morning, after he was set ablaze allegedly by the victim’s family at Nighara village, the police said here. In his dying statement, Raju Vishwakarma (38), who was out on bail, said the rape survivor called him to her house on Thursday night for a compromise. Her family members demanded Rs. 2 lakh and when he expressed his inability to pay, they poured kerosene on him and set him afire, Deputy Inspector-General Makrand Deoskar said, quoting him. Vishwakarma had been arrested on a complaint by the girl’s parents that he raped her on April 30.
