Critics say yoga guru’s motive is to sort out his property issues in Haridwar

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, a BJP supporter, has sprung a surprise by appreciating the work done in Kedarnath by the Congress government in Uttarakhand.

On Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s invitation, Ramdev visited the temple on Wednesday. During a media interaction, he expressed his appreciation for the government’s work, and said the temple was safe for visit.

His appreciation of the work comes two days after BJP leaders here condemned the Congress for neglecting problems of the local population in Kedar Valley. Some political analysts link his sudden appreciation of the Congress to the property disputes he was facing in Haridwar.

In 2013, more than 80 cases were filed against his Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogpeeth for alleged violation of the Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act and the Indian Stamps Act.
