A day after the appointment of Rakesh Maria as Mumbai's Commissioner of Police, the other contender in the race and senior IPS officer Javed Ahmed has openly expressed his disappointment.
“I haven't said I am unhappy about the proceedings, but yes, I must say that it is injustice,” Mr. Ahmed told The Hindu .
When asked about the reports of his resignation against the government decision to not appoint him as Mumbai Commissioner of Police, he told The Hindu that he reserves his comments on this issue at present.
“I have said what I wanted to say. At present I do not want to say anything about the reports about my resignation,” he said.
Mr. Ahmed, a 1979 batch IPS officer and former Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), was one of the senior officers than the newly appointed Mumbai police chief, Mr. Maria. The top post in Mumbai Police is equivalent to the Additional DGP rank.
However, a day before the announcement of name of Mumbai's Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed was promoted to the DGP rank along with K.P. Raghuvanshi, former Commissioner of Police, Thane. His promotion put him out of race for the Mumbai Police chief post.
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Rakesh Maria, a 1981 batch IPS officer was on Saturday night chosen as Mumbai's Commissioner of Police, after a delay of 15 days.
