The Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry suspended Rakesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), on Tuesday, a day after the CBI arrested him in a bribery case.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Children’s Film Society of India has been given additional charge as CBFC head. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar ordered that steps be taken to make the film certification process transparent.

Officials said the Cinematograph Act was being reviewed to see if the entire process of applying for certification of a film or part of it could be done through electronic mode to root out corrupt practices.
