Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday took on Pakistan for its strong reaction to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s remarks on neutralising terrorists. He said the entire world knew who was “promoting” terrorism.
Mr. Singh also asked Pakistan to help in tackling terrorism as it was also a victim of the problem. “It [Pakistan] should extend full cooperation in checking terrorism because the country is facing a similar problem today,” he told reporters here.
The Adviser to Pakistan’s Prime Minister on National Security, Sartaj Aziz, had said Mr. Parrikar’s remarks confirmed Islamabad’s apprehensions that India was involved in terrorism in Pakistan. “It must be the first time that a minister of an elected government openly advocates use of terrorism in another country on the pretext of preventing terrorism from that country or its non-State actors,” Aziz had said in a statement released by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Parrikar early this week said he would take “proactive steps” to meet any threat to the country, declaring, “you have to neutralise terrorist through terrorist only“.
Earlier, speaking at a SBI officers’ convention, Mr. Singh expressed concern over the fake currency note racket. “Fake currency is used to promote terrorism,” he said, asking banks to be on alert. — PTI
