A teacher, Mukut Sen, of a government secondary school at Banthuni village in Baran district of Rajasthan has been arrested after a 16-year-old tribal boy was found hanging in his home on Saturday evening.

In a suicide note addressed to his parents, the boy, a Class X student at the school, blamed Sen for his suicide, the police said. The note said the teacher often beat him and humiliated him in the class for not doing well in studies or failing to do his homework, the police added.

The note said the teacher meted out similar treatment to other students. He could not take the humiliation any longer and the teacher should be severely punished by the police, it added. The boy was found hanging from the ceiling by his parents when they went to call him for dinner. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
