Rajasthan Governor Prabha Rau (75) died at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here on Monday following a massive heart attack. Ms. Rau was found unconscious in the bathroom of Jodhpur House here on Monday morning and was rushed to AIIMS where she breathed her last.

A former Congress General Secretary, Ms. Rau was the fourth Rajasthan Governor to die in harness after Darbara Singh, Nirmal Kumar Jain and S.K. Singh.

A known Nehru-Gandhi family loyalist, she took over as Rajasthan Governor in January this year. Earlier, she held the the gubernatorial post in Himachal Pradesh.

Ms. Rau, a former member of the CWC, will be cremated at her native Kolhapur village in Maharashtra's Wardha district on Tuesday with full state honours.

The Rajasthan government declared a seven-day state mourning as a mark of respect to the departed soul as leaders across the political spectrum condoled her death.
