The Rajasthan government on Saturday recommended a CBI enquiry into the allegations of rape against the former Minister, Babulal Nagar, although neither the CID (CB) nor the Home Department confirmed the development.
On Saturday, the statement of the woman who had accused Mr. Nagar of raping her was recorded before a court here, a day after she was medically examined and her clothes sent to the Forensic Science Lab. However, a medical examination of the minister could not be conducted.
“On Friday, the investigating officer had sent a letter to the former minister for a medical examination, but on Saturday, when the CID team went to his residence, he was not available so the examination could not be conducted,” CID (CB) spokesperson R.P. Yadav told The Hindu.
“So another letter has been sent to him asking him to be present at his residence tomorrow [Sunday] for a medical examination,” he said.
The CID (CB) has also summoned the staff and employees stationed at Mr. Nagar’s residence for questioning.
The victim’s statements were recorded under Section 164 of Cr. P.C before the Additional Chief Judicial Metropolitan Magistrate-10.
While Mr. Nagar has ruled out any similarity between the current case and the Bhanwari Devi murder case, the victim has accused the minister of threatening her with the same fate as Bhanwari faced, if she spoke out.
In her original statement to the Sodala police station, dated September 16 (a copy of which is with The Hindu), the victim had claimed: “... I kept screaming but the respondent [Mr. Nagar] showed no mercy. Later, he threatened me that if I told anyone or approached the police, no trace would be left of me like Bhanwari, and that he would have my son killed because he had great influence within the police and administration.”
