Five workers of a factory manufacturing detonating fuse, were killed in an explosion inside the factory in Abhanpur village located 30 km from Raipur, early on Friday.

“The blast took place at around 2 a.m. in the Navbharat Fuse Limited located in Abhananpur killing five workers of the factory,” Raipur district Superintendent of Police O.P. Pal told The Hindu .

“Seven workers including a supervisor were on the night shift in the factory unit, but the supervisor and one worker managed to escape unhurt as they were not in the factory when the blast took place. The impact of the blast was so large that it brought down the entire factory unit killing five workers (present inside) on the spot,” said Mr. Pal.

The SP said that the cause of the explosion would be clear only after an inquiry.
