Moderate to heavy rains today lashed several parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, disrupting normal life in the region.
The rain water inundated several low-lying areas in the region making it a breeding ground for mosquitoes in Punjab and Haryana where a sizable number of patients are already fighting with the dengue fever.
Incessant rains also threw the power supply out of gear in most parts of the region, making things worse for the people who are facing high levels of humidity which ranged upto 90 per cent.
The rainfall had further raised the water levels in rivers and reservoirs in the two states, officials said, adding that the situation was, however, under control.
While Karnal received 87.4 mm of rainfall, Amritsar got 53.3 mm of rains.
Besides, Patiala had 18.8 mm of rainfall followed by 14.9 mm in Rohtak, 13 mm in Chandigarh, 4 mm in Bhiwani, 1.4 mm in Ludhiana, 1.2 mm in Ambala and 1 mm in Hisar.
The rains plummeted the maximum temperature in the region by around four notches.
The MeT forecast more rains in the region during the next two days.
