The police have filed a first information report against Uttar Pradesh Minister Mohammad Azam Khan on a complaint by a railway attendant that the Samajwadi Party leader slapped him and forced him to do 50 push-ups on the issue of dirty bed roll in an AC I class compartment of the Howrah-Amritsar Punjab Mail.

The FIR was lodged with the Government Railway Police, Amritsar, on Wednesday. As the incident is alleged to have taken place in Rampur, Mr. Khan’s hometown, the report has been sent to the GRP there for investigation.

Attendant Nirmal Murmu said he was summoned by the Minister when he saw dirty linen and no proper bed-roll in his coupe. After closing his coupe, Mr. Khan slapped him and forced him to do 50 push-ups, the complaint said.

In Rampur, the Minister admitted that he had scolded the attendant, but denied having manhandled him.

Mr. Khan boarded the train at Lucknow’s Charbagh station on December 18.
