A police raid on the Beur central jail in Patna on Sunday morning led to the recovery of gold jewellery, mobile phones, knives and iron rods. The raid followed the murder of a young prisoner in the jail on Friday night.

Police seized several SIM cards, mobile phones, gold jewellery, six knives, iron rods and some cash from a prisoners’ ward.

“Most of these items were recovered from the ward in which dreaded gangster and RJD leader Ritlal Yadav is lodged,” said a police official. Ritlal Yadav recently has filed his papers as an Independent candidate for the upcoming State Council poll of local bodies.

“A team of Patna police conducted the search after an under trial prisoner was beaten to death in a clash between two groups of inmates inside the jail on Saturday and the police seized some items from a prisoners’ ward,” said the officials.
