Rahul’s surprise visit to Mirchpur

In an unscheduled trip, All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi visited Mirchpur on Thursday to meet with the dalit family whose two members, teenage daughter and old father were burnt alive in caste based arson on 21st April.

Mr. Gandhi arrived unannounced to the village, 350 kms form here and assured the families that stringent action against the guilty will be taken. Seventy-year-old Tara Chand and his physically challenged daughter Suman, were killed when members of Jat community torched over 12 houses belonging to dalits over a brawl.

Mr. Gandhi assured the family that they will be rehabilitated soon and their demands would be placed before higher authorities. Haryana Congress President Phool Chand Mullana later said that the visit was unscheduled, “We were not aware about his visit. Probably he wanted a quiet interaction with those who had been affected," he said.
