All-India Congress Committee general secretary and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday charged the Uttar Pradesh government with lack of cooperation in implementing Central schemes, particularly for the uplift of farmers.
Mr. Gandhi, who began a three-day visit to his constituency, was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the IFFCO (India Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative) building in Kachanow village in the Jagdishpur Assembly segment of Amethi.
Despite inadequate assistance from the State government, there would be no let-up in his efforts for development of the area, Mr. Gandhi said.
Several schemes have been launched by the Centre for the development of the farm sector, but the absence of a Congress government in the State was an impediment in their implementation, he added.
Stating that the country was made up of “rich India” and “poor India,” Mr. Gandhi said equal opportunities are not available to the poor. He said it was his endeavour to take the poor also forward.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Gandhi and Sam Pitroda, economic adviser to the Prime Minister, launched a broadband and telephone service called Fibre 2 Panchayat Technique in Bahadur block.
