AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will declare open a cricket stadium and interact with students of Pondicherry University at Kalapet near here on Friday.

The stadium and allied infrastructure have been constructed by the University at a cost of Rs. two crore, Director of Culture and Cultural Studies Department in the University, Professor A. Balasubramanian said.

The interaction programme is organised by National Students Union of India (NSUI).

This is Mr. Gandhi’s second visit to Puducherry.

He had held a similar meeting with students during his earlier visit about a year ago.

A Kancheepuram report said Mr. Gandhi would visit the Sivananda Saraswathi Ashram and Orphanage at Kattankulathur during his visit to Tamil Nadu in February but no date has been fixed.

A press release from the ashram’s general secretary Rajaraman said Mr. Gandhi had accepted his invitation and expressed desire to spend time with children of the orphanage as well as children from other orphanages at the Sivananda Gurukulam.
