A 19-year-old girl, a trainee with a German MNC, committed suicide here after having been repeatedly ragged by fellow apprentices, the Nashik police said. Ten of them, all in the 18-19 age group and including four girls, mentioned in her suicide note, were arrested on Tuesday.

Assistant Commissioner Ganesh Shinde said Pranali Pradeep Rahane first slashed her wrist and then hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her house when she was alone on Sunday night. Her father immediately rushed her to hospital, where she died.

The 10 accused have been booked under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC and Section 4 of the Maharashtra Ragging Act. They have been remanded in police custody till September 7.

The victim’s father said his daughter was selected by the company to go to Germany for further training. Jealous of her, the accused ragged her repeatedly, he alleged.
