A day after four persons were detained here in connection with the gang rape of a 72-year-old nun in West Bengal’s Nadia district, the Punjab Police are waiting for their counterparts in Kolkata to identify the alleged culprits.
Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner of Police Naveen Singla on Wednesday said that the search operation was conducted on the inputs of the Bengal police.
The police said that it was confirmed during the preliminary investigations that all the four persons were dreaded criminals and they had created havoc in West Bengal and nearby areas.
Investigating teams were facing a serious language problem during the interrogation so they arranged for an interpreter and it was confirmed that the accused were Bangladeshi nationals, he said.
They were hatching a conspiracy to commit serious crimes in Ludhiana also, he said. The police remained tight-lipped on their role in the gang-rape episode. “It is a sensitive case. We did the search operation on the inputs of the Bengal police. Let them identify the accused,” he said. - PTI
