Police officials from Maharashtra were here on Thursday, as part of the investigation into the Pune blasts. This follows the revelation that Dayanand Bhavurao Karbari, tailor who was injured in the blasts, hails from Kohinoor village in Basava Kalyan taluk in Bidar district.
The officials visited the village on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border and spoke to Dayanand’s parents, two elder brothers and neighbours.
“According to information available till now, Dayanand is a victim and not a suspect,” Inspector-General of Police (northeastern range) M. Wazir Ahmed told The Hindu .
Dayanand, 32, is called ‘Gora’ for his fair complexion and villagers recall him as a caring and friendly person. Dropping out of school after Standard VI, he left home for Mumbai 16 years ago. He worked as an apprentice at the tailoring shop of his brother-in-law Kishan Biradar, who hails from Sarjolaga village in Basava Kalyan taluk.
Dayanand stayed in Mumbai for 11 years and later left for Jordan to work as a tailor in an apparel company. “But he returned to India within a year after he had differences with the HR agency that had sent him to Jordan,” according to sources. After returning from Jordan, he shifted to Pune, where he has been living for four years now. The last time he visited Kohinoor was when he was married two years ago.
Neither Dayanand nor his relatives have any history of crime or law and order violation. They are not known to be members of any organisation based on ideological or caste groups, say police.
