Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Monday said Lieutenant Governor Virendra Kataria could have convened a meeting to discuss the law and order situation in Puducherry before making remarks against his government.
Reacting to the remarks made by the Lt. Governor in his interview to The Hindu , he told reporters here that he had discussed many issues, including law and order, with him. He (LG) could have convened a formal meeting to discuss the formulation of a plan with him and senior police officials. It could be a routine practice. However, his government would not give asylum to any rowdy element.
In fact, tough action would be taken to control anti-social elements, he added.
Taking strong exception to the accusation levelled by Union Minister V. Narayanasamy, who had stated that the Chief Secretary and the Inspector General of Police presented a wrong report to the Union Home Secretary, Mr. Rangasamy contended that they had just presented the factual report about law and order.
How could responsible senior officials submit a wrong report, he asked. The accusation was just an attempt to gain political advantage. There was no truth in it, he said.
On allegations about a nexus between a section of police and criminals and the incidents of threatening calls by prison inmates, he said tough action would be taken against policemen who brought disrepute to the department.
