P.Sainath on board of journalism university

Eminent journalists P. Sainath and Ananya Banerjee have been nominated to the board of management of Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva, Chancellor of the university, has nominated them for a three-year term.

Mr. Sainath, a Magsaysay Award winner, is the Rural Affairs Editor of The Hindu based in Mumbai.

He has been instrumental in defining the contours of the discourse on agricultural distress, rural poverty and corruption within the media in India.

Author of the highly acclaimed and widely read Everybody loves a good drought , he is also the guest faculty at the Asian College of Journalism (ACJ), Chennai, and the Sophia college, Mumbai.

Ananya Banerjee is the Deputy Director-General of Doordarshan and a media consultant. She specialises channel management, personnel and human resource training and the making of biopics.

The Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication was established by an Act passed in the Assembly following Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s budget announcement of 2012-13.

Sunny Sebastian, former Deputy Editor, The Hindu is the first and current Vice-Chancellor of the university.
