Protests broke out in Paddar town of Kishtwar district on Tuesday after two teenaged girls, arrested by the police in connection with a sex racket case, allegedly went missing from a police station, officials said here.

On a tip-off, police arrested 22-year-old Ramu, who was found in a “compromising position” with two girls aged 19 and 17 last night. The girls were later released late Monday night, while the man was booked, police claimed, adding all of them belonged to Basantgarh belt of the district.

However, the parents of the two girls claimed that they did not reach home till Tuesday morning.

As the news spread, over 300 to 400 people resorted to protest demonstrations and pelted stones at the police station, they said. Senior administration officials have rushed to the spot to control the situation, they added.
