The Gujarat University students belonging to the National Students Union of India, the students’ wing of the Congress, on Tuesday staged a demonstration against Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray for ‘insulting’ Sachin Tendulkar.

The demonstrators also burnt an effigy of the veteran politician for his adverse comments against the cricketer in the party organ Saamna.

An NSUI spokesperson said the Sena supremo had no business to insult Sachin when he was giving vent to national pride.

Student run over

In an unrelated incident, police burst teargas shells to disperse a mob after a seventh standard student was run over by a truck in Juhapura locality in the city.

The mob beat up the driver and set the vehicle afire and started pelting stones on other passing vehicles when police intervened.
