Prohibitory orders banning assembly of five or more persons have been imposed around Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant in Gurgaon district, ahead of the fourth anniversary of violence on its premises on July 18, an official said on Sunday.

Gurgaon District Magistrate T.L. Satyaprakash banned till July 19 gatherings, protests and public meetings without prior permission from the administration under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Maruti Suzuki workers’ unions along with other trade bodies have announced peaceful demonstration on Monday.

On July 18, 2012, violence broke out at the Manesar plant after a suspended Maruti Udyog worker allegedly slapped a supervisor.

The workers allegedly ran amok, setting fire to a wing in the building.

A senior executive was killed and over 100 people were injured.

The company sacked 2,500 workers after the violence and the plant was closed for over a month.

As many as 147 workers, including union leaders, were jailed and are facing trial at present.

The plant is now functioning with new staff.—IANS
